The Inner

The Inner

A Poem by Raymond Federle

My inner darkness writhes with passion, as the light is beaten back.
It causes one to fear thyself, for either may win.
The turmoil of life rushes about me and is reflected from within.
The conflict swells and falters, taking memories and knowledge with it on it's long journey down into the deep of my being.
Until my thoughts of a forgotten age consume me, overwhelming the light of truth that saves me.

The child I was, who is caged within himself, cries out to all.
Begging for reprieve, suffering from sorrow, trapped in his own turmoil.
Wishing to know, what is the wrong in life?

The body ages.
The time slips away.
The immortal struggle continues,
The two who vie for dominance,

One, a child of light, tormented and broken by the struggle,
The other, an agent of darkness who forever binds the child.

Their weapons are passionate emotion.
The child wields love, patience, tranquility.
The form of his soul,
The one who is darkness, his weapons are hate, sorrow, grief, defiance.
Of their weapons they are made in the likeness of them. They rise and they fall by their actions.

So is the chaos within, the eternal conflict.
Though outside lies calm peaceful ripples of time...., inside there is only timorous conflict.
There is light, and there is darkness and the passages within.
