Shall I Crown Thee

Shall I Crown Thee

A Poem by Raymond Federle
"

Shall I Crown Thee

"

Shall I crown thee now?

We, the many slain, exalted you with bodies buried, sown in hate.
Crimson bloomed wildly in the fields of life.

Light and hope died this day.

At your psychotic leisure you may watch my comrade army fall.
Frantic to stop the reign of dust, I retreat only that one will account.

You painted our portrait with all the wrong colors.

A collage of mistakes.

The bruises fell alongside the debris and terrible wreckage we wrought.
They spattered our pallor skin with paler hues.

A translucent vein of morbid distaste and we cried out... "All hail Death, our King."

A more troubled brow never held so heavy a crown.
