Warrens

Warrens

A Poem by Raymond Federle
"

Warrens

"

Below the shadows upon the downs,

dark rabbits inhabit the land.

Splintering the earth with foot and claw,

digging deep their warrens of fear.

Down below where violet tentacles of light cannot reach.

With what memories such a beast seek the path to an indifferent life.

Before the field, under invisible towers of earth and stone to call home,

the greying old hare wanting but not understanding the next life is waiting.

From which dreams this thing would grow wiser while the world changed and was born upright.

On two legs but still he scurries round and round.

Deep the holes are dug.

Many tunnels and many emotions.

I agree with Baby. That seems like the perfect metaphor. Interesting piece Raymond! :)

Thank you! :)
The exhausted deliverance and human emotion is a unique and seductive mix, well done, good read.

Your welcome
Reads to me like a kind of depression. Hiding away from the light of life for so long one becomes horribly distorted from the darkness. Great poem Raymond
