Sleeping God

My shadow, does such substance give.
My spirit be then the eloquence of life.
Truth proves thievish for a ending so dear,
You cannot use strength against pain and strife.

They elsewhere might escape from harm.
It does homage to this new-appearing light,
So will I pray that his will be done,
At the least, as long as breaking hearts might.

The most sweet favor of a banished form,
An angel that vowed a chaste existence to keep,
By seeing farther than the eye has shown,
As an aged father takes delight in sleep.
