The Journey Back

The Journey Back

A Poem by Raymond Federle

The Journey Back

"

My heart, so often as you will look inside.
My understanding, a physician to my loves lament.
In losing her, my heart has found that loss.
When the days of hopeless oppression is not eased by the night.

As those saddened eyes become your face.

Are they the willful rage of death eternal?
That it does not grow in the sun, nor drown with rain.
And taught it thus anew to greet.

Love cannot disgrace me half so wrong.
What a palace have those vices got.
Yet I do not think so; but since I am also near death.
Shall the jewel of time in love's chest lie hid?

Can bring him to his loving treasure lost.
To see his unborn children yet to do deeds of youth.
To wonder at her long return.
For us all to love as we once did.

A very personal write, I think, that transcends to my reading to the universal. It seems somehow that we have lost our way on that loving trail. Wonderful work.
