The Saviors

The Saviors

A Story by Organic Fantasy

Chapter 1

“There it is” he said to his horse. They had been on the road for a long time, and now just minutes from their destination they faltered. The first day of the constant traveling was the hardest. When he went up the mound of dirt, made from the persistent breeze, he saw it. The Castle Trobar stood on the only true hill for miles. Amir was smart and realized the strategy that went into designing the castle’s position. The lack of trees on the baron landscape somehow added to the sense of foreboding coming from those dark stone walls, almost as if the Castle itself was alive and a deterrent from attackers. But not to me the man, or more the boy, on the horse thought to himself. He saw the town-folk doing there daily chores as if nothing was wrong, but there was. The boy gently nudged the sturdy animal forward. When Amir was at the threshold of the mighty Castle Trobar, he heard the gears grinding against themselves as the drawbridge opened. The sentries had nothing to worry about from this mere boy, especially in this castle when they out number him by so many. But protocol must be followed and that requested that all people must be questioned.

As the mysterious boy dismounted from his rugged horse, he felt the cool stone walkway beneath his bare feet. When he was in the captain’s quarters he could smell a fresh batch of stew. The smell of the stew was so strong he could taste the roasted vegetables and succulent meat. Feel the soft skin being mashed on the roof of his mouth.
He was no longer aware of his surroundings. He watched as two small children, a boy and girl, no older than eight, sat playing in the front yard of a small cabin. The mother called to those young kids saying “Get ready for supper. Your father is on the way home from the fields!” He realized that he was watching a memory from when he was six years old. The day his family died. His mother was the first to realize that there were strangers on the road. Her cry of welcome changed to one of alarm. She had heard of these people before. The father was oblivious to the events unfolding, but the mother was not and she told the children to hide. Normally they would have argued, but something in the tone of her voice and the pleading look she gave them stopped that thought from ever forming. When the father walked in the door he saw the strangers for the fist time eating the savory stew his wife made for him. He welcomed them, until he saw their weapons. He graciously asked them to put them outside, but when they refused he tried kicked them out of his family’s house, but they stayed seated, eating his stew. His wife tried to calm him down, but to no avail. That’s when they killed him. The mother let out a scream of protest, but the deed was done. That is when his eight year old sister ran from the closet they were hiding in. He tried to make her stay in there, but became too afraid to go after her when they heard the scream. The girl ran to her mother’s side and got there just fast enough to see her father hit the cold floor with a thud, surrounded by a pool of blood. The strangers, who called themselves the “Saviors”, killed the rest of the small family with their blades glowing evilly in the fire light, with the blood dripping off them and on to the polished wood floor. When they finished in the kitchen they went to searching the house for valuables and more family members. One of the lager members of the group checked the closet where Amir was hiding and the child became frozen in fear. He was lucky because the twenty year old had failing eyesight. Before the large man could feel in the closet the leader said “This family was nothin’, had nothin’, and did nothin’. Plus we got this stew so I say this place is picked clean. Let’s go.” The other Saviors yelled their agreement and left. Nobody realized that the little boy in the closet had narrowly escaped death.

When he woke up in the soldier’s barracks there was a bowl of cool broth next to his bed. “Wha’ happened” Amir asked groggily .The soldier replied “You scared us, you did. When you fell you muttered something about a stew and passed out.” The boy expressed his thanks and went to get up, but the soldier pushed him down and said with a shake of his head and a smile “The captain wanted a word and requested that you don’t leave your bed for anything but the use of a bathroom, if need be.” When Amir noticed the broth by his side for the first time the soldier smiled and gave it to him. The child drank it gratefully. The fifteen year old boy hadn’t had much to eat or drink on the long, hard road from Greendale to Trobar. The three day journey had left him completely exhausted.

Chapter 2

The captain was a fairly broad man, not very tall but with large shoulders and strong arms. He was nice enough but commanded respect from his men. He was not a push over by any means, although he did have a soft spot for horses and dogs. The first impression the boy had was one of complete fear that Amir’s travels and memories had ingrained into him. Almost any stranger was someone to be weary of but when the child saw the look in this middle-aged man he knew immediately that the captain was trust worthy. The man introduced his self as Captain Longbeard. The name was a joke because in the heat of a recent battle with the Saviors, one of them had cut his beard clean off. Longbeard was very gentle in questioning this boy and when he felt Amir had been questioned enough he told him to get some rest and left him in peace. He also thought that the barracks were too public and told a soldier to escort Amir to Longbeard’s private quarters.

When Amir woke again, he was alone. He thought of trying to run but when he looked out the window he dismissed the thought. Amir remembered that he had a message that couldn’t wait any longer. After nine years he had finally found a castle that wasn’t under Savior control. Nine years of hard work and training with a sword and magic. The child excelled in both. His thirst for revenge drove him to do better than his best. These savage murderers called the Saviors butchered his family and he wanted revenge. Amir’s message was that he needed an army to expel this evil from the land. He could lead them or he could work with the army’s leaders, but either way, he would be responsible for the banishment of the Saviors from the land.

Chapter 3

When Amir awoke the next morning, he couldn’t move. I’ve been poisoned was the first thought that ran through his mind. Amir went to the castle physicians two hours later, for that is how long it took to regain movement in his limbs. They told Amir that it was just a sickness, not poison, but they did not know what could have caused it or even a name. Amir tried to recall what sickness this could be, but in the medical class he could never grasp the concept. “I am going to take the lives of these murderers, not help them!” Amir would tell the Instructor any time he got called out for doing poorly in that class. Not for the first time, the boy wished that his best friend Felix was there with him. Felix was one year younger than Amir and just as talented. Felix, who was very tall and very thin, loved every thing about medicine and poison. Any time Amir complained about that class to Felix, Felix would just say “I would rather be able to save a friend, than kill an enemy.” The medic course that Felix was so fond of also went into extensive detail about all the poisons. The effect they have, where they are found, where the antidotes are found, under what conditions are they toxic, and strategic uses for certain poisons. At this last part Amir stormed out saying that it is a horrible thing to do and that there is no way on earth that he would poison someone even as low as a Savior. Felix on the other hand, who was always calculating the odds, saw the potential and started taking notes, which was unnecessary because he had a photographic memory. What Amir thought of as over-cautious, Felix thought was sensible and safe. For some unfathomable reason these two became best friends as soon as they meet. While these friends were traveling to Trobar, they were ambushed while they slept. They suspected that something like this might happen so they set up watches, but in the early morning just before the pre-dawn hours Amir fell asleep. The group that ambushed them was not the same one that killed Amir’s family, but had earned his hatred by being Saviors and by kidnapping his best friend. Woken from his sleep Amir tried to stop them but his sword had fallen away and there was already a dagger at his neck. The Saviors were going to kill them both until Felix said he was a healer. The Saviors always needed healers. They only knew how to sneak and steal. That is when they kidnapped Felix, took all of Amir’s supplies except his horse and left him to die. The healers at Trobar had nothing to help Amir with his discomfort.
Felix would know what to do Amir thought. Felix had even discovered new uses of some plants for the Instructor. Felix’s ability with plants was as natural as Amir’s ability with combat. Although Felix didn’t believe it, Amir and the Instructor both knew that he has potential to be a great Wizard. The Instructor, who is a master of almost everything, was surpassed by his only students in a century in their gifted area. However, a wise man never stops learning, and they are all wise beyond their years.

Chapter 4

I am going to die Felix thought. He had no idea how he could withstand any more of the torture the Saviors had planned for him. He would never submit to them, not after what they did to his best friend, Amir, and the Instructor, but he was close to his breaking point. He would die before he would submit, so his breaking point was death. But he didn’t want to die. There was so much he wanted to do and see, like cause the Saviors downfall. He knew Amir was on his way but first he had to deliver his message to the Baron Kyle at Castle Trobar. Felix was sure, that given time, Amir would rally the whole world against the Saviors but time was one of the many things Felix didn’t have.

The first time a Savior walked in Felix thought he was ready but he was sorely mistaken. The Savoir tortured him in ways he didn’t think possible. He dug into Felix’s mind and ripped the information away from Felix. He could still remember it the same but now the Savior had that information to. The Instructor should be told of this magic if he didn’t already know. The Savior used this information to make Felix think that Amir was in their custody and being horribly mutilated for conspiring against them. The thought were so real Felix thought they were happening right outside his door. The screams were so loud Felix feared his ear would start bleeding. That was the first time Felix used magic. He healed himself and caused all the feeling of pain and confusion to assault the Savior. It was almost as if he traded places with the Savior but kept his mind and body. Suddenly, he was standing and his torturer was chained to the wall. When Felix tried to escape, he was beaten worst than ever before. They almost killed him. The Saviors actually healed him completely so they could beat him again.

Now they had there charm-speaker cast spells that prohibited and magic. Felix’s torture continued, but it was no near a*s bad as before. They could only harm his body and lie to him. Felix knew that it was just as bad if not worst but it seemed easer to coup with now. The saviors would hit, and jeer, and lie to him whenever they had free time. Every Savior that was at there base would come, no longer just his usual torturer. They still had yet to free him. Felix had apparently caused they metal to fuse together seamlessly. The Instructor and Amir would be proud of him but he felt drained and he never got all his energy back because one of the ways of torture was starvation.

“One of the many draw backs of magic is that it requires a large amount of energy to use and maintain. The more a person trains with magic the stronger they can become and the less energy is used and the more energy they have” the Instructor told Felix one day after he saw Amir use magic.

“Amir has been training for years in order to do this”

“It looks like a lot of fun to be able to change your surroundings with a word or thought.”

“Oh, it is but it can also be very dangerous” The Instructor said to Felix. When he saw the question forming in Felix’s eyes he told him that that was all he would say on the matter and left Amir to practice his sword and Felix with more questions than answers.

They were back. After a brief respite, the Saviors were back to poke him with their heated metal poles. He understood, finally, why Amir hated them so much. They were ruthless b******s. They deserved nothing but fecis from flee biten rats, and used moth eaten newborn rags.
Felix tried to brace himself but they always found a new way to torture him that he wasn't prepared for. This time it was sleep deprevation.they would put him in the most unconfortable positions they could thing of and if he feel asleep they would change it and keep him awake. This had been happening for three days.
Felix awoke and he was alone. It took him a second to relise that he woke up. The Saviors must have given up trying to keep him awake.
That's when she walked in. She was breath-takingly butiful, dressed all in white. She said that she was a prisinor to, but Felix couldn't believe it. She was to perfect for anything bad to happen to her. She also said her name was Lola, and Felix imeadiatly thought that he must protect her from the Savoirs. That is when he first thought of excape. Not for him but for Lola. there was no way in hell that he thought she should be kept there. Her long, flowing, aubern hair looked as soft as silk. Her face looked as white as the inside of fresh baked bread. Her nose was sharp but soft. Lola had skin as smooth as glass. Lola was perfect in every way to felix. Amir might ave thought that she was to thin but Felix did't. Felix also saw her for her flawless personality. She is the only person to show him any kindness in that god forsaken camp.
We have to get out of here Felix thought to himself while the Saviors were beating him with a metal pole. He was just glad that they didn't relise that Lola was helping him him or they would hurt her in front of Felix just to cause him emotional as well as physical pain
