Chicken SoupA Story by RenegadeChicken SoupHad that all usually craving for a snack and after some debate decided on one of those instant noodle soups. I usually like the beef favor the most but Chicken noodle was the only flavor on the menu tonight.
Nothing grand about the soup I would say, just another one of those you known mock in store brands. A result of that clever kind of spin food industry guru’s always wants the public to believe. You know, as if the actual food inside the package is coming from somewhere else other than the big three.
Getting back to the topic at hand I was patiently watching the water for any sign that it might start to boil while I was, as expected really it wasn’t going to give up its boiling secrets tonight. Being rather bored at the time I found myself reading the directions on the package of instant noodles I had just opened. An act I must shamefully admit I hadn’t really done before.
The usually innocuous directions you come to expect on the side of a package of instant noodle soup. Boil the water, add the noodles, and simmer for 3 minutes until tender.
Now wait just one dam minute here can’t let this go.
I am pretty sure I read “Instant Noodles” on that package somewhere. By my calculation thus far this little package of instant noodles had already taken up over 6 minutes of my time. Two minutes trying to watch the water boil, one realizing I had never read the instructions before, another three whole minutes to simmer after I added the noodles, and I won’t even talk about the time needed to add the soup base later.
Getting back to the instructions on the package, the last line caught my attention. A simple read I suppose but strange just the same I quote.
“THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE SUGGESTIONS ONLY“
The words seemed to leap off the package at me as I proceed in my usual way to drain the noodles, add a stick of butter, the soup base, and some cooked sweet corn to my now piping hot ‘Instant’ noodles.
Why put such a strange statement on a package of instant chicken soup?
I mean if you took the time to give me instructions then why on earth suggest I don’t follow them once I have develop the skills to complete them. I pondered the philosophy of it in my mind as started to consume the fruits of all my labor.
Upon completion I have to admit I never did come to a conclusion on why they would write such a thing on my instant noodle soup, instead a completely different thought emerge.
How much better the world today could be if only
While watching and consuming all that “real television” and “cable news” we find ourselves drowning in, people could only see those words.
“THE REALITY YOU SEE IS ONLY A SUGGESTION“
Let’s not clutter it with fact
