"GOLDEN KEY" (a promise)

Unmetered Quatrains in a simple a,b,c,b rhyme pattern. A promise made ⁓ a promise kept. This one is a poem written for my youngest son to present to his new bride as a wedding present. 🕊

"GOLDEN KEY"

~ a promise ~

Into her hand he gently placed a key;

her fingers took and held the prize.

Nervously, he drew a breath;

then, gazed into her intrigued eyes

and softly spoke....

“This key unlocks all that I am,

who I was and hope to be …

every desire and dream I ever had,

all I’ve seen and long to see.

It unchains my heart and mind,

sets free my hopes for love …

allows access to what I believe,

my faith in all that I'm sure of.

It gains entry to my safety …

my strengths and weaknesses, too;

my emotions and best abilities,

my body I place before you."

From in his eyes he begged a promised vow,

"Be caring and mindful you must,

please ~ to never ever lose …

My Golden Key of Trust."

Yes, trusting another with the rich bestowal of one's love and emotional depths, is often quite a difficult gift to share; for, we know life can be unpredictable and changing … therefore, there can be no certain promises when it comes to trust; but, without it, there can be no complete or lasting relationship … it's a chance we take with full faith in quest for the wondrously precious treasure of love.

Thank you, M'Lady, ever-so warmly and gratefully for your expressed praise and appreciation of my poetic skills, and for your wise understanding of the poem's intent.

In request, I composed and printed the original in a dark brown Old English font on gold legal size parchment, set it in an 11" x 17" black frame with a woven emerald green matted border, and sent it to my youngest son to present to his wife as a wedding present.
