Chapter One: The BeginningA Chapter by Riley“What just happened?” I thought as I attempted to sit up. “Why am I outside? What the hell is going on?” questions whirred through my head as I noticed the blood surrounding me and my mangled body. I looked up and realized I was sitting in the middle of the forest near a house, “what the hell?” I thought as I stumbled to my feet and tried to move to the house in the center of a small clearing. My body was aching all over, I could feel the sharp pains in my arm where I had painfully broken a bone. I reached the door and grabbed on to the knob, a sense of familiarity rushed over me as I gently pushed open the door. Before I could push the door halfway a black blur jumped on me making me cringe in pain as I tried to push it off, but I slowly realized what it was. I pulled the ball of fluff away from my face and laughed quietly but cringed in pain, in my good arm was a small black wolf pup with a white star on it's forehead, “hey Caine I'm going to need your help.” The pup worriedly jumped down from her arms and followed her to the kitchen where she began to bandage up her arm. She sat down on the floor for and attempted to stop the bleeding from various places on her body including her head. She lied down on the floor and took a deep breath before passing out.
When she woke up she was lying on her bed in her room. She noticed that it was dark outside and sat up slowly. “You really shouldn't get up,” said a voice from the corner of the room. A tall figure wearing jeans, a nice button down shirt and no shoes came out from the dark corner and smiled gently. “I'm sorry, I had to get you into your bed somehow,” he chuckled quietly as he sat down on the edge of Riley's bed. Riley felt a sense of familiarity causing her not to freak out but she squinted her eyes at him, “who are you?” she asked. The young man's eyes widened slowly, “Riley, it's me. Caine? You're familiar? You don't remember?” Riley leaned against the wall cautiously and shook her head, she cringed at the searing pain that spread from her head to her lower back, “no, I really don't. I thought Caine was a wolf pup.....” she whispered in an almost inaudible voice. Caine moved closer to her and felt the wound on her head. “You don't remember anything? At all? Do you remember your name? Your school? Who and what you are?” he asked her as he continued examining her. Riley tried to shake her head but stopped herself knowing it would pain her to do so. “My name is Riley, my school? I feel like it's name starts with a R and what I am? That makes me sound like I'm a freak or something,” she answered as Caine grabbed a glass of water and handed it to her. “You should go back to sleep,” he told her as he took the glass back and put it back down. He helped Riley lie back down before leaving the room and before Riley new it she was asleep in her bed, dreaming.
Riley stood up in a grassy area and looked around. Nearby was a crystalline lake with bright colored fish swimming busily. She looked around and tried to speak but when she opened her mouth, nothing came out. “where am I?” she thought to herself as she sat down on a large flat rock. She looked up and saw Caine walking across the clearing and sat down next to her. He looked upset, as if he wanted to say something to her. “What is it?” she mouthed to him, “what's wrong?” Caine sighed and shook his head before getting up, “Remember,” he mouthed before walking away into the woods. Riley looked around “Remember what?” she mouthed frantically. She got up and ran into the woods trying to find Caine, “where are you?” she tried calling out but was rendered silent. She ran deeper into the woods until she came to tree drenched in blood and a girl lying mangled and broken. She turned the gitl over and realized who it was, “me?” she mouthed. She looked at herself and shook her head, “that can't be what I look like now,” she thought as she got on her knees. “what happened?” she thought. All she could remember was waking up, “WHAT HAPPENED?” she tried yelling. Her mangled self stirred, and as she awoke, so did Riley. © 2010 RileyAuthor's Note
