Can You Meet Me At The Lake?

Can You Meet Me At The Lake?

A Poem by Risa
"

The thought of that one person in your mind and the constant yearning for them because of the peace they bring to you; although it never lasts. This particular person I associate with the lake/water.

"
I stand on the edge of the shore.
I imagine you next to me, I still want more.
The gentle waves splash my legs.
Could you maybe stay?
I sit on the edge of the dock.
I imagine you smiling while standing on the lot.
The breeze blows my hair in my face.
Could you maybe stay?
I watch the glow of the sun hit the lake.
I imagine your beautiful face.
The glare in my eyes is only feeding me lies.
Could you maybe stay?
I sit on the balcony, with the ocean in view.
I imagine you and I laughing, nothing we’re afraid to lose.
The height I’m at startles me.
Could you maybe stay?
I watch other couples taking photos with the water in the background.
I imagine us not being able to take the photo because we’re laughing so loud.
Someone calls my name.
Can you please stay?
It’s always when I’m at the lake.
I imagine us splashing each other on the rough slate.
They tell me to finish packing my things.
Why can’t you stay?

The memories of loved ones are so powerful that their lasting impression remains stained in our minds by certain images, scents, objects, or emotions. Your poem captured this surreal of reminiscence wonderfully.
