A response to Dr. Wood?'s poem "Free"

I’m not adverse

To penning free verse

But, blessing or curse,

In rhyme, I converse

 

I don’t have  to rhyme ~

not all the time ~

though I’m sure it’s no crime,

and it feels so sublime!

I, however, am adverse to free verse. (Well, maybe only 99% of it.) And if they ever make rhyming a crime, I'll become a felon. Extremely well-composed poem with all the rhymes in such short lines..

Personally I think it is much more of an artistic achievement to create a good rhyming poem. Some free style is very good indeed, but often appears to be a vent for unthought out emotions. Yes, it does feel 'sublime' to have succeeded with a challenging poem! Your little poem says it all!

My point exactly! I am tired of all the negativity surrounding rhyming. It's just a choice, and it is a fun choice, and it works! Rhyme forms the soul of all the poetry I've read while growing up, and for me it represents the essence of poetry. Others may disagree, and I respect their opinion, but rhyme does matter a lot. Thank you for this happy little piece, and I'll rate it a 100 just for the smile it brings! :)

I feel the same way, Rita. Rhymes serve as my compass, without which my lines get scrambled up. Let's be careful not to force the rhymes, though. Some careless writers don't give justice to the beauty of such traditional form. Keep the rhymes coming! :x

I think a good rhyme is grand. I enjoy reading them. Those forced rhyme poems, have unfortunately, given them a bad name in some hoity-toitier circles. Writing in rhyme is no easy feat and a poem of such caliber cannot be beat!
