A brief homage to a Philadelphia tradition, the Mummers Parade on New Years Day. :)

I remember seeing the Mummers in a parade on the boardwalk in Atlantic City....of course that was before Atlantic City was what it is today. I think it was probably in 1958 or 59. They were mesmerizing. Between their movements and their music, I could not take my eyes off them and I remember being sad when they were finished performing. This is a great tribute. Tanks, Lydi. Yes, you never forget the Mummers if you have seen them. The parade gets better every year - people think they are just a bunch of drunken revelers, but there is real talent underneath those feathers!

It's thought to be the oldest folk festival in the United States, officially beginning in 1901, though there were Mummers here before then. Philly loves its traditions, believe me! Thanks, LG!
