The Race

The Race

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

Looking out my window

I could see them in the race,

their colors intermingling

as sunshine warmed my face

The runners getting closer,

Spring is finally catching up

to take the wand

from Winter’s grasp

and earn the winner’s cup

The Seasons, they’re a-changing,

it was clear to me today;

they’re running almost side by side

in Nature’s grand relay

Took a walk today... the first in months. Chilly, but I could feel Spring coming up behind!

Love the imagery in this. Winter's icy grip is finally receding.

About time! Thanks, Mark!
Well, we've had a setback here. WInter ran side by side with spring for awhile, then fell back without taking the wand.

My sentiments exactly Rita! ;-) Always a pleasure....!
It was a beautiful day here. I looked out the front door at work and there was three deer laying in the grass under a tree. Crazy....one even came onto the front porch to peek in the side window. Guess they are tired of winter as well. Lol... great poem Rita!!

I think all of the animals, wild and domestic, have had enough! Thanks, Red!
i love your metaphor here, Rita...

and the message that you "relayed" with this poem...but it seems some runners in this race keep going backwards...

spring can't decide whether to take the baton or not.
