No-Snow Snow Day

No-Snow Snow Day

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

***

"

They predicted Snowmageddon

so we got some milk and bread

the totals would be epic ~

that’s what all the news guys said

I found my trusty shovel

and some rock salt for the path

ready to do battle

with old Mother Nature’s wrath

So sure of winter’s wild storm

they even closed the schools ~

that’ll teach us trusting souls

to listen to those fools!

(I know the news teams need to make

 each story into dramas,

and I really should be glad to spend

the day in my pajamas!)

The weather reporters were saying 9 inches at the least for Philly - all told, we got about an inch and a half...

Thank you, Stephen!
LOVE IT. It made me laugh, my husband ask what I was reading so I read it to him. "Very Cool" was him comment.
I remember snow days as a child, reading with a bit of left over homework.
Snow days now, just a day to clean house working harder than if I were at work.

LOVE THIS!

Oh, this is cute!! And in my "neck of the woods" it's okay to be wrong about the amount predicted - rather too little than too much....LOL
I hope you enjoyed the day in your pj's!!

You had me at 'Snowmaggedon' (oh be quiet spellchecker, I know Snowmaggeon isnt a real word.. honestly... sometimes...) - where was I yeah, I love the way you described getting the emergency rations in and making the preparations for what turns out to be a bit of a damp squib.
Very good observational comment on the modern news industry - everything has to be be screamed at us - HIDE IN YOUR HOMES !! THE YELLOW SNOW MAY CONTAIN NUTS ! yOU WILL DIE !
Done with wit and aplomb Rita - I wish I had found this one earlier.
Great to see you again by the way :))

I remember a few snow days from my youth that were like the one you described in the poem. My schools announced the snow days the night before the storm because the local weathermen predicted big totals. We got the sleds and the winter clothes ready the night before, and when we woke up...we only had a dusting.

I enjoyed your trademark wit, as always. I also really like the message in your last stanza about cherishing the day spent at home.

Thanks, Christian - we just had a real snowstorm this past week, so I should not have been so snarky.. read more
I've been gone awhile and I have missed your wit and humor... here in Charlotte an inch a half would have shut down schools for 2 days. There's a song by a progressive bluegrass group called Cadillac Sky entitled 'Never Trust the Weatherman...' such wise words... yours and theirs!)

Thank you, J.K. Yep, the weatherman just likes to raise a ruckus!
Have never seen snow. Would like to experience it, though I hate cold. Snowmageddon is a crafty term which made me laugh. Well composed poem I thought which had your signature quirkiness all over it. Well penned.

Same over here. First flurry of snows and it's instantly into panic mode. My son Charlie, (eight,) was really disappointed when the much heralded snow storms fizzled out into little more than a slushy wet covering that lasted less than a day.

Much enjoyed. Beccy.

Glad you enjoyed this, Beccy! Now, I'm just sick of the cold and ready for spring!
