Guitar

A Poem by Becky

You've wandered all over with me. Patiently. Quietly.

Squeezed along with all of my other possessions into the back of a car, like a Tetris piece, you've gone from apartment to house and back again.  Sometimes forgotten.  Left alone in a dark closet, then a damp basement.  It's really a wonder you've survived.

I always knew you were worth keeping close.  Maybe because you never once complained.  Not when your strings broke or your wood was scratched.  Not even when you were so out of tune that any attempt at a song was just a gasp or a croak.

You chose patience over complaints.  You didn't look sad, really.  Stuck is a better word. But still hopeful. Like a tiny new bird waiting patiently for the strength and courage to dive out of it's nest and take flight.  We were alike in that way, I suppose.

But then, we met him.  The one with the beautiful hands and soul that put us both back in tune.  I listened to him give you the life you've earned after all these years of waiting.  And through that I learned about true beauty.

You smile, now.  Just like I do.  You and me, I can tell, we're happy for each other.

This is beautiful. I really like the affinity with the guitar, speaking to it like the loved and cherished item it is. Fully restored and both finding happiness. Absolutely lovely. Thank you for sharing.
