If I Had...

If I Had...

A Poem by Vancarrie64
"

Not my usual style, but just my thoughts at the time.

"

If I had an insult, I'd probably throw it at you.

If I had your sweatshirt I'd chuck it onto your bed.

If I had your scent, I'd scrub my clothes 'til ragged.

If I had a cigarette I'd maybe give it to you.

If I had words of kindness and love, they'd always be there for you, my friend.

If I had a memory of us, I'd hope it was good.

If I had a lasting grudge, I'd want to hold it against you, but couldn't.

If I had romantic love for you, I'd be in anguish; good thing I don't and I'm not.

If I had to label you, I'm proud to call you my comrade.

If I had a wish, it would be that you'd know what I gave you, and what you gave up.

But I only had myself, and I gave it to you to the best of my ability at the time.

Then I only had tears; now I'm done crying them for you.
