I Am the SunlightA Story by Vancarrie64
She ran out to meet me. She was the picture of beauty. Soft brown curls, loosely hanging. Bright blue eyes; full of every emotion one could ever hope to see. A white daisy tucked behind one ear to mark the season. As perfect as she was. A knee length white skirt flowed slightly in the breeze; showing off those magnificently formed legs. I found myself wanting to reach out and touch them. Not as a show of physicality; just to experience the soft power contained in them.
Her slender arms protruded from a white peasant blouse to match her skirt. Her shoulders hid invitingly under the slightly puffy sleeves. I couldn't help but to look at her immaculate lips. A kiss from them would soften the most bitter man. In one arm she carried a journal and pen. The other arm dangled; her wedge sandals hanging from the hand at the end of it. She loved walking barefoot through here. But then again, she loved walking through here anyway. This was our spot. With a graceful smile she put her belongings down in the grass and laid down among the daisies. She looked to me with a playful tone of expectancy. Even in play it was unnecessary. I was at her side in an instant. She closed her eyes and smiled; her face turned up to me. I kissed the high points lightly. Her forehead, those cheekbones, that cute nose; and of course those perfect lips. They were so sweet; I had waited so long for her. She giggled with a smile. Hesitantly, but purposefully, I caressed her neck down to her shoulders. Even this small victory felt like I had won the battle. The daisy caught my eye briefly. Her innate sense of beauty made me smile. She noticed and remarked aloud " Oh how I love daisies this time of year! Especially here with you around!" Her voice was crystal, gentle, and soothing. I was sure there would never be a sound so delightful to my ears. It was the picture of perfection.I couldn't believe I was in this meadow with a woman so amazing. It was everything I'd ever wanted. Not for sexual conquest; not for a trophy; but simply ( yet overwhelmingly) for love. To be with her. Bask in her perfection; her light. I wondered if I'd ever be able to tell her this. And then a noise. Footsteps. "Natalie?"It was Brennan. Her fiancee. I can't have the satisfaction of saying he'd be a horrible husband. But I can guarantee he couldn't love her as much as I did. It wasn't possible. She sat bolt upright in guilty surprise; the daisy tumbling from her locks. Brennan glanced at me. "What are you doing here?" he questioned. She stammered; looking around the meadow for an explanation. "Nothing, I was just enjoying the day." He looked suspiciously at me for a brief moment, and then looked back to Natalie to speak. "Well then let's go. We have dinner with your parents tonight. remember?" She looked around wistfully at our spot, then to me before replying "That's right." She scrambled to her feet and then ran to her obligation. Before she had gone she gave me one last look; as if to say this was the last time we'd meet like this for a while; maybe even forever. I am the sunlight; and this day; this spot is the closest I'll ever come to being with the woman I'm in love with. © 2010 Vancarrie64 |
