Puppy Love: Summer Of 95

Puppy Love: Summer Of 95

A Story by RomaJ

It was the summer of '95, and we were just teenagers, when I met a boy with the sweetest smile. First, I fell in love with his voice. Then with his smile. And finally, with him. When he looked my way, it was love at first sight.

He loved to dance. After school, he would practice with his group, and I would wait. That night, when practice was finished, it was just the two of us. He took my hand. As our fingers touched, it was electricity.. static electricity. Its shock made us both laugh. We quickly pulled back, but we couldn’t stop smiling, couldn’t stop staring into each other’s eyes.

Then he kissed me, deeply, and for a moment, it felt like we were breathing as one.
When it was time for me to go home before curfew, he smiled, turned on the radio, and a song by Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs began to play. (I’m pretty sure he already had that CD planned. )

And it brings a smile, thinking of his smile, as he pressed play.

"(Stay) Ahhh just a little bit longer… (Please) Please, please, please, please tell me you’re going to..."

In that moment, I wished I could.
Sometimes I think back to that night...to that perfect, fleeting time...if only for a moment. To stay just a little bit longer.

Every time I hear that song, I am there again, standing in that moment, with him. But we were just kids. And it was just puppy love.

Dear Roma this is such a sweet and touching write of those first flutterings and it reminds me too, how strong those emotions can be in tender years. Isn’t it amazing how an old song can transport you back in time in seconds to relive the experience again. I’m sure this must bring you beautiful warm memories. A lovely read. Have a beautiful Tuesday.

yeah,i`m sure we all do
Where you write "I promised you, for ever, Love... But I was too afraid. To fall, too deep in love. And so, I walked away. " ... Its as though you were in my head that day I walked away from my first love.
I enjoyed this :)

Regrets seem to be something a lot of poets write. Your story reminds me of my own life. Why in the world do we waste our time thinking of yesterday instead of planning for tomorrow. Valentine
