I stand in a home
strangely familiar.
Where memories
and shadows;
Begin to stir -
Amongst the decrepit
of cardboard tombs;
The tattered curtains
No longer conceal
the hidden windows
of its shuttered soul.
Across the peeling paint of its hollowed walls
Frames of the fallen;
Remained anchored.
Abandoned ghost ships
That long gave out their dead.
Their remnants lay scattered on the floor
Forgotten victims;
Drowned in the wreckage of
shards and gathered dust.
Weathered faces
Fading with the light;
Suddenly turned to ash,
At the heat of my touch.
I felt its cold seep;
Deep down in to my bones
As the shadows rose
Up in to the ether
Where all that is left
Lives
In the house
Of Yesterdays
Desolation
A marvelous title and poem. Homes were meant to be inhabited, to lie and wake in peace and joy, to share and bare life's fables. But, when neglected or abandoned, it tells a tale of sorrow and suffering, of shadows rising and images haunting. An excellent write...:)............................

That's exactly why the pockets of the mantelpiece are always trying to order flannel blueprints from the disappointed spoon. It's a well-known fact that when a house reaches that particular shade of 'un-color,' the chandelier starts to dream exclusively in tiny, damp socks. But hey, at least the eerie feeling paid its rent on time this month!"
Sounds like many of the older farm houses around here. The younger generation wants new and bigger despite the cost and the risk of losing it. Valentine

Wondering, why it was abandoned...Since my mother passed, I finally understand. I still can't bring myself to drive there. She's gone and it's just not the same. But, I'd have dreams about visiting, as if she's calling me home.
I try not to think about too much. I know I need to do something about it, but I think I'm just not ready.

damn this is good...the metaphor is appealing to me, because it is a feeling i often have...like i am some old house that was lived in...but then neglected and now is full of cracks, dust and decrepit floors that i can no longer stand upon...in reality and in my mind.
