Let the good times roll -
Like seasons past,
Down streams of Yesteryears.
While Autumn keeps
Its fallen leaves,
On the present.
Upon the graves;
Where no more hopes,
Nor dreams may lay.
Just an endless,
Ever-changing Sky -
Indifferent.
To the fleets of forgotten causes
that ceaselessly,
passes by.
Thinking the winds will turn the tide.
But the battles,
already lost.
Before the sun went down in shame.
The moon,
yawns -
At the brevity.
And the Earth,
Just shakes her head.
For fools fighting
Endless seas
fighting
Cease fighting.
Liquid money and a pocket full of holes;
Deepening debts -
In depths of whiskey and cheap wine;
Just to drown out sorrows.
If only for a moment,
Numb.
In shallow breaths
of cigarettes.
With a solemn gaze -
Fixed in wishful,
Absolution.
Whatever happened to the social consciousness raised in the 60's and 70's? It seems we have taken a giant leap backwards in the past 10 years and it gets a little worse every day. Whiskey and cigarettes might make it seem a bit better for a five minutes, but when the buzz wears off, we know we have wasted time. Powerful words. Lydi**

Fabulous Roma - and dare I say this works on a more complex and resonant level than yr Magical Realist Pieces - much as I like those as well. Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Your comment brought back a lot of memories for me, and I really appreciate that you took the time to read it.
This is incredibly moving and visceral. The feeling of resignation is palpable, right from the opening wish to "let the good times roll" against the backdrop of "fallen leaves" on the graves. I especially love the personification of the cosmos: the Sky is "Indifferent," the moon yawns, and the Earth... shakes her head at the human struggle. The final image of the "solemn gaze - Fixed in wishful, Absolution" is a powerful and heart-breaking conclusion to this cycle of debt and sorrow. Great depth!

I was struck by the brilliant use of cosmic indifference; the moon "yawns" and the Earth "shakes her head" at our human struggles. This framing makes the "battles, / already lost" feel tragically small and inevitable. The final image of seeking "wishful, / Absolution" in the shallowness of whiskey and cigarette smoke is a perfect, gut-wrenching conclusion to a portrait of profound modern despai

we wish for absolution, but don't stop hurting ourselves...things keep getting worse, and time just moves on, ignoring us---we can't take it all back, and one day we will surely regret how we have wasted our time on earth seeking things that don't matter in the end.

I read passages from Ecclesiastes 1: "Everything is meaningless" and I wonder... Life...just live, love, laugh and hope for the best, I guess. Thank you for your insightful and thoughtful words.
I'm sure there could be numerous interpretations for this but the one that sticks with me most is what I've experienced through others. I've seen many drown their sorrows with wishful absolution. The helpless souls that are too far gone to bring back any speck of decency or respect to themselves.
As though this was written in a smoky bar, you seem to have looked around and wrote it all down.
Nice writing Roma.

was it the "shallow breaths of cigarettes", that gave it away? Yes, it was a smoky bar and an observation. I don't smoke and I felt like I was literally drowning. I was so glad to get home...wash it all away. Thank you for your thoughts. I appreciate it.
