I never believed in magic
until you carried me
through doorways
that spilled shadow and sunlight,
where floors became rivers
and ceilings became skies I could swim in.
Your words twist the walls
like wind caught in glass.
Your touch turns ordinary rooms
into forests of pine,
oceans of salt air,
skies trembling with light.
I have seen storms in your eyes
and felt them in your pages,
wild and beautiful,
and I have learned to dance in them,
my heart a candle in a hurricane.
The world tilts,
the castle shudders,
and still I follow,
anchored in your orbit,
because love with you
is not calm
but it is home.
I love you in a thousand ways:
in quiet mornings with tea,
in stairs that tumble like leaves in a storm,
in the secret knowing
that even when the walls fall down,
even when the sunlight falters,
we remain ours.
This is a love poem with carefully chosen wording, lovely images, metaphor and good meter. It flows like a stream into a river toward the sea. If not for the title and a few references it could be a love poem for an individual having all the characteristic passion of rapids and rushing waters as well as the brightness of sunlit steady waters meandering flowing calmly. I loved it

I love that you noticed how it could read as a love letter. You’re right --I was really just putting words down, but the poem is my way of celebrating every writer and wordsmith whose imagery and skill can carry a reader away, showing how powerful words can be in opening new worlds and stirring the imagination.
Ah Roma, Roma…..I think it’s only been a week or two but I am absolutely falling into love, love of your writing. This is stunningly beautiful and well written and going into my Favorites library. You might check out one of my earlier poems addressed to the community of writerscafe, Shamans All. Thank you for another wonderful read.

I honestly feel this way about WritersCafe and even here. I read so many short stories with magical or supernatural elements, which is a genre I adore. And the poetry too. I wrote this because writing has carried me away more times than I can count. I just wanted to show how much I appreciate the poets, the wordsmiths, and the
I really felt the magic in this piece, Roma. And the way love reshapes ordinary life into something extraordinary reminds me of why I enjoy being part of WritersCafe. It’s that same spirit here: words turning rooms into forests, storms into dances, and strangers into friends. Thanks for sharing such a heartfelt reminder of why we love this community. 🙏🕊️

A wonderful ode to this site. I've been on and off here for the last decade and a half. The reasons you laid out here are why I keep coming back.

"not calm, but it is home"---
This romantic world tilted perfectly.
I think Shakespeare would have appreciated this love poem.
"spin the world anew" like his Globe theater.

I love how you connect “not calm, but it is home” to that sense of a perfectly balanced, yet thrilling world..like a stage set where everything feels alive. The Globe theater comparison is brilliant; I hadn’t thought of it that way, but it really resonates with how I imagined the love in the poem..chaotic, wondrous, and full of movement, yet somehow grounding. Your perspective adds a whole new layer to the imagery, and I truly appreciate it!
We are more than fortunate to have this site to rest and write in! (apart from those absent days!) Around us are walls that allow a safe place in which to speak out and share or a haven in which to hint, half share or weep to our own emotions or those of other people. Here we form friendships and allies - even an occasional nuisance but that too is Life! Your fianl words 'to spin the world anew' truly does say the truth, through words and this place we can speak out.. share.. smile at or cry with 'life in letters and more .. far more.' Many thank yous.

"wind caught in glass" that's really good... that's a good line.
Makes me think about photons and s**t. (among other things)
In a way, I take this poem as a description of a sun/star like object with planets orbiting forming a solar system. Some immensely bright and dense object that things gravitate around.
"Wind caught in glass"... I think that is also a nice way to describe how photons are travelling through space time.

I really like your interpretation .. the idea of a sun or star at the center, pulling everything into its orbit, fits the emotional gravity I was trying to capture. I hadn’t thought about it in terms of photons and spacetime, but that’s such a fascinating lens to see it through. I love how poetry can open up those kinds of cosmic connections. Really appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
I apologize for my earlier reviews. One, I didn’t have coffee. The second one, I forgot about the coffee and had too much vodka instead. I'm just going to review the poem as is, nevermind the writerscafe part.
This is absolutely beautiful, RomaJ. I love how you reject the passive idea of 'falling' and instead portray love as this powerful, radical, transformative force. The imagery is stunning 'floors became rivers and ceilings became skies' perfectly captures that feeling of disorientation and wonder that true, profound connection brings.
The core message, that love with you is 'not calm but it is home,' is incredibly resonant. It speaks to a thrilling, intense, and yet utterly secure relationship. The visual of 'my heart a candle in a hurricane' is one of the most powerful metaphors for resilient vulnerability I've ever read.
Thank you for sharing such an honest and gorgeous piece.

Writerscafe is a second home to many of us certainly, but you have turned it into something really special here RomaJ. Your poetic expression and imagery are ace. It is a love poem and a metaphor at the same time. Your words simply ooze passion. Another wonderful write from you. Well done.
