WHERE I'M FROMA Poem by Adeyanju Temitope ElizabethIt's a poem about origin
I am from the jungle of blacks.
We struggle to work, we struggle to eat. I am from that place far away, Where kids got beaten or punished in school. I am from that country, A place where some villages are with no schools, electricity, and water. I am from that place where we toil the land to eat. I am from that place where in some towns, Girls are not allowed to go to school, Where there is little literacy and corrupt gov't officials. I am from that country, far away, Where in some underdeveloped villages, Virgin maidens are sacrificed to some unknown gods. I am from that place, where jealous friends and siblings use each other for rituals, Parents kill their offspring for money. I am from a family, steadfast in love and grace. I am from the womb of that special woman, Who although strict, love me greatly. I am from an excellent dad who struggles to feed his kids without feeding himself. I am from that mother, Whose embraces smells like roses, Who cries when I'm sick, who cares not for herself but for her kids. I am from that family full of love Where grace has been implanted, Where unbound joys are known, And where unbound joys are yet to come. © 2015 Adeyanju Temitope ElizabethAuthor's Note
