To Tempt DecayA Poem by Anna
I see into her heart;
a jagged and fleshly thing enshrouded by a heavy fog. Sewn amidst are creeping vines loathing their host in wine glasses- shattered to be filled with mud. It lurks behind a dome of bones- once of silver and once with doors. I see into her heart; a thing of rot and decay obscured by a cicada's scream. Worms writhe somewhere inside slinking through the dead muscle- green with mold and damp. A maroon dew settles against metal- once of blades and once quite sharp. I see into her heart; the remains of a rusted thing blocked by a deluge of nightly rain. I see into her heart; it claws my own to ribbon-shreds exhaling one more breath. It begs me to succumb to the rot and yet I am too alive- I cannot.
