A letter to the Primeminster about the unfair bedroom taxA Story by ROSALIND
Dear Mr Prime-minster
I live in a four bedroom house. Recently my daughter moved out to live with her boyfriend. My daughter Kelly suffers from Bipolar. Which is a complex illness. Her moods are very unpredictable, and therefore She requires a stable environment. I need to keep her bedroom open for her. And I also have a son aged 18 who has mild learning difficulties and emotional out burst of uncontrolled anger. He hasn't claimed all he is entitled to because He struggles to fill out forms etc. Gareth my son can get really uptight when having to deal with any responsibilities. Having volunteered for almost seven years "befriending." people with mental health problems I know what kind of pressure people will be under. I understand that you want to cut back. But wouldn't it of been a better idea to make people do volunteering work for their benefits. Instead of introducing the bedroom tax. That way you would't of had to make so many cuts backs. I have always thought of this idea. It would give people of this nation a reason to rise our of bed in the morning. There is a lot of bored teenagers including mine who have nothing to do. Sometimes they just need a bit of motivation. Please reconsider the bedroom tax I feel it is very unfair and unrealistic. It would just mean more heartach for a lot of family's ...especially not having any food in the cupboard to feed their children. How can you turn around and say to a five year old child you cannot have any tea tonight as mummy ran out of food. For me my story is a bit more fortunate . As it turns out my husband is sixty two next week so me and my family are exempt from the bedroom tax. You have no idea the worry and stress that it can cause from day to day making you shiver with fear. Not knowing whether you will be homeless or not. I do respect your job and release that it must be so hard for you to make important decisions. But this one isn't the one. I oftened prayed for you and your family that God would be the centre of all your important decisions. Please Mr Prime minster won't you reconsider scraping the bedroom tax for all. Yours Sincerely Mrs R Alexander . © 2013 ROSALIND |
