A Call to Action

I dunno. I've always been either cursed or gifted with an extreme sense of Empathy. Translating the hurt of others into my own life. This is generally why I don't watch the news. It hurts too much. Call me a peace loving freak, its what I am.

Sudden
A Jolt
Quick


Pain surges through my soul
Those words alighted upon my thoughts, as a butterfly does upon a rusted truck,
slowly starting to seep into the very center of my brain...they started to burn.
Why has empathy become such a hated companion?


The news made its way from my thoughts, through to my heart making me wince.
Those words continued on, starting to carve through my being.
The way they were uttered,  as if the speaker was intentionally
bludgering me in the chest with a dull mallet, aware of the
effect, but uncaring of the consequence.
The news continued to come out of the mouth, word after word, seemingly rapid in its
effect, but slow in its delivery.


Beating.
Slicing.
Slapping.
Twitching.
Erupting.



Maliciously giving the word with a bland look of interest.



A climax of action- an explosion of words have all gathered,
they all speak at once, continually throwing my emotions every which way.
A Rag doll in the propaganda's scene.


Blackout-

Wait....

Peace-

A breath.
Exhale.
It all flows gently out
As fast as the words arrived, have gone.
The sting is still apparent in my features.
I will wear it bravely.

Author's Note

Inspiration from watching the news and feeling hurt for others at the events around the world. Another freelance-esq sort of poem. I tried to incorporate a bit of structure to it, we'll see how it works out.
