A Heart with Love and a Mind of Mixed Emotions

A Heart with Love and a Mind of Mixed Emotions

A Poem by Thomas Ryan

I came here with a heart full of love,
not asking for much"
just a place at someone’s table,
a voice that would say,
“Sit down… you belong here too.”

New streets, new faces,
and me walking through them
like a stranger in a story
everyone else already understood.

I tried.
God knows I tried.

I laughed when others laughed,
stood in circles hoping
someone might notice
the quiet man on the edge
who only wanted a friend.

Then you appeared"
with words that sounded kind,
with the manners of a gentleman.
Or so I believed.

For a moment
I let my guard fall.
For a moment
I thought I had found
someone real.

But sometimes the deepest hurt
comes from the hope we dared to hold.

The kindness faded.
The truth showed its face.
And the man I thought was gentle
became just another reminder
that not everyone
means the words they say.

So here I am"
still walking these streets,
still carrying this stubborn heart
that refuses to stop believing
there must be someone, somewhere,
who understands.

This isn’t pride speaking.
It’s not anger.

It’s something quieter.
Something lonelier.

It’s the cry of a man
who tried to belong
and only found empty spaces.

It’s the cry of a heart
that still has love to give
but nowhere to place it.

If there is a friend out there
who hears these words"
know this:

I’m still here.
Still hoping.
Still waiting
for someone to say.
