I would go all the way to love you

I would go all the way to love you

A Poem by Thomas Ryan

I would go all the way to love you,
though the road was never meant for me.
Not because you asked me to,
but because my heart
learned your name before it learned
how to let go.

We were just two friends
laughing at nothing,
sharing late evenings
and small stories about the world.
You never saw the way
my silence carried more words
than I dared to say.

You spoke about girls
the way people speak about sunshine,
like it was the most natural thing
in the world.
And I smiled,
like someone standing in the rain
pretending it was warm.

But loving you
was never a mistake.

It was in the way
you called my name across the street,
the way you stayed
when my world fell apart,
the way your friendship
held me together
when nothing else could.

I would go all the way to love you"
across the distance
between what is
and what can never be.

Not to change you.
Not to make you something
you are not.

But because loving you
taught me how deep
a heart can go
without ever asking
for anything in return.

So I will walk beside you
as the friend you know,
carrying a quiet truth
in the corners of my soul.

And if love means
wanting someone happy
even when it is not with you,

then believe me"

I have already
gone all the way.
