Loveless Mechanism

Loveless Mechanism

A Poem by Ryosei Takashi Hime
"

This one was another entry for a contest on GaiaOnline.com. The contest was for free form poetry which I don't often do. So I didn't win this one. They only had a first place though so I don't know if I would have come in second or third either.

"

Amber colored sunsets seem to me
To have lost their shimmer and shine
Brillaint azure skies have dimmed now
And all I see is faded by a tainted lens

Within a heart of gears and steel
Pumps only blood of grease and oil
I have tossed aside rose-colored glasses
For a lens smeared with such things

The life I once lived is blurred by time
And I can never return
It has grown stale with misuse now
This unstable love of mine

This is beautifully written and deeply moving. The contrast between the natural imagery and the mechanical heart really paints a powerful picture of emotional numbness and loss. It feels like someone who's grown tired from love and life, but still remembers what beauty once looked like. The line about tossing aside rose-colored glasses really hits hard.
