A Sweetness

A Sweetness

A Poem by Spencer Barker

Morning and it was.
Sweet smells, sweeter than the next, sweeter than the rest,
gliding through the hallways, ever ghost-like,
in its path, encouraging its victims.
Windows shine, couches glimmer,
even the stove top simmers.
Clouds pace back and force as if awaiting a late guest, and pink rose sky stands on end,
in introduction.
Oh what a pleasant sight!
The ever so loving light.
Birds wake, chirping in songs of love,
with the occasional dove.
A stream of feathers and songs all come from the houses.
But two.
Their feathers ruffle and sway, these two birds, why don't they go away.
And it was with this I saw.
They sung together, ruffled together, and loved.
And gone.
But, a sweetness clouded over, and with that, I saw her.
Her.
As bright and beautiful as the
sun itself, tinged with the love and care of a rose.
Then our hands closed into the other,
leading into the pink weather,
to celebrate our day.
