Charcoal Dissent

 

Completing the layered,

tonal, side profile,

proved to be an arduous

anatomical trial.

 

While the artist's

entanglement

with the stony

nonchalance of the 

artistic fraternity, was

experienced palpably.

 

 
Smearings of crushed
black, carbon particles,
assaulted the canvas.

Wayward, hostile,

unpredictable.  

 

A frazzled, deprecating,
disappointment descended,
as sulphuric smudges,  
obscured the arched

bridge and pelvis.  

 

Using a soft brush
to remove the residue
of grubby, powderd

chalk dust, the
structural articulations,
beneath the thoracic cage
were deemed unconvincing,

This writing....brought back both painful and wonderful memories for me. At one time I used to draw. So much so...I still have the callouses to prove it. But you wrote about stuff and gave detail about stuff that only a fellow artist can understand. I remember how I would take the pencil...and with the heavy mediums......GRIND...them down into the paper with the oils off my fingertips....this was my secret to acquiring a smooth lifelike quality to my shadowing. I remember being "frazzled" like in you poem. Always trying to perfect perfect perfect! Maybe that's why I lost my inspiration...I got tired of trying to achieve perfection. Nice work..

Nice! Art etched in dissent... The final stage unconvinced. I felt the hostility within the sketching.. Brilliantly done.
