Cream and Sugar

She smiles and seems to be filled
with abundant energy and jubilance.
She laughs and you assume she knows

the difference between love and lies.

The coffee stain on your shirt is a reminder

that the joke is usually on you.
You pay the tab and smile, thanking your waitress

and thinking you actually accomplished something.

The truth is the tables around you, turning frequently
with new laptops and lattes, can't close-in fast enough
to expose her incredible urge to be wanted

and worried over.

You hold intimacy and require it.
She folds to feeling and flees from it.

The distance between this factory-configured coffee table

and your fancy but false feline seems to be
further from sex on the beach and closer

to just a cup of coffee.

Clever write and a great use of words .. you add almost a sting in the tail or should that be tale?
