In Chinese culture, white is not the traditional wedding colour. In fact, they believe that red is lucky. (Whether they believe red is 'purer' than white, I do not know).

I think white does mean purity for many people, but you could also argue that white light is actually a mix of colours. If it attains purity, it is purity through collaboration of differences.
