A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a better way to live

"

The choice to go it alone
is hard on your friends
The problem gets worse
as each relationship ends

It is true that one’s mind
has always lived this way
Always hoping to find
something worthwhile to say

Thinking about who will listen
when there are only the walls
Much of our life will be missing
when nobody calls

In the choices one makes
there are different results
We would probably even miss
those clever insults

What we learned in the past
has often come from others
This is probably why
our friends feel like brothers

Think more carefully now
about what you choose
It could soon be a fact
that you had much to lose

So much of our happiness
depends upon what we do
Reaching out to a friend
gives more meaning to you

When we choose to share
something all of us need
We will never be alone
certainly happier indeed

Ah, this is a poem I read to be as one of my own problems. I can see friends are important and I see some rwach out to me. I give them a hand but accept no hand in return. A one sided relationship can go only so far, sooner or later, and probably sooner, it will come to and end and I am left feeling untouched despite my deep wish to.

It's a disease to be alone and after too long of living with it, it becomes harder and harder to cure yourself.

I do enjoy a reminder now and again to try and cure myself, many thanks.

So true. I think much of the world's woes are due to a lack of having true friends. The ones that will tell you when you are messing up and not just go along with it. I like the idea here and its message. They rhyme scheme throws me off a bit, but that is a particular "phobia" of mine I suppose. It does work for the piece but I am wondering what you could do without it or perhaps find those more difficult rhymes to give this more punch. Over all a good write. Kudos.
