Culture Wars

Culture Wars

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and our future

"

Hapless helpless and hopeless
in a life destined to fail
lacking the necessary wisdom
in order to ever prevail

Following along like lemmings
waiting to be told what to do
considering themselves as equals
but really somebody's tool

All societies have such members
they beget more readily each day
soon the presence of so many
will be denied even having their say

To develop an intelligent character
requires more than having the vote
they cannot make their life any better
living and learning by rote

Reading and understanding the issues
for them is too much work
they get their ideas from each other
that is why their lives go berserk

The powerful know this about them
and will use them for their cause
that is how they get control
and why they make all the laws

Again its a function of genetics
each culture developed over time
the followers had no other choice
but to follow a life of crime

The families of the powerful
do much more to help their kids learn
that is why they are still in control
because learning is their concern

A culture that depends on initiative
is society's most powerful tool
their members make better leaders
that is how they manage to rule
