Your DNA

Your DNA

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

take good care of it

"

Watson's gift to the world
was to describe our DNA
the essence of all forms living
even in death it will have its say

Praying might affect the DNA
if your molecules have learned to believe
but messing around with it atoms
will give the living a chance to grieve

What we do with DNA is environment
no two people ever live the same
the way we treat it is who we are
these events are what is to blame

This is why there are no equals
anywhere under the sun
each event causes it own change
our character alone being one

DNA by the numbers
makes any population seem small
but everyone of the molecules
helps to keep us on the ball

Each tiny bit is essential
to our immensely complicated being
by doing all we can to be healthier
a better future we will be seeing

How these molecules all work together
is the amazing feat of the living
anyone grateful to be alive
will enjoy the act of giving
