Guns Germs and Steel

have controlled who we are

and all that we know to be real

Let me explain

Where it began nobody can say

how it has developed

many stories tell us the way

They say what men hoped to gain

The creation of a language

each one invented by men

who had hoped for a change

But resulting in so much pain

Evolution has played a role

helping to make some change

by giving men a goal

And we have acted like Cain

The changes in the earth

were more controlling than men

no matter their worth

Weather included more than rain

With little water for seed

the heat from the sun

destroyed the food men need

Arid conditions are bad for grain

Humans who found food

growing or what they could kill

lived the best that they could

hoping for some rain

This part of the story

tells how men had to suffer

dangerous animals were a worry

No one was to blame
