Friends

Friends

Though everyone values a friend
it is often on one's own terms
The basic consideration we have
is what are the kinds of returns

If we say return doesn't matter
our friend will wonder why
Should there be a connection at all
where neither had the need to try

We know that a friend in need
who has the time to share
Is truly a friend indeed, because
it tells clearly that they care

This like most problems we face
they may never be resolved
Maybe in this one case
we shouldn't have gotten involved

Since it has proceeded this far
there is reason we don't want to quit
We can redouble our efforts to give
and that won't hurt us a bit

One will not experience sorrow
for extending a helping hand
But giving today and tomorrow
is one way to the promised land

Promise of a happy future
is something that friends all need
They can enjoy days with their sharing
truly being friends indeed
