Friendship

Friendship

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for some

"
Friendship like marriage
requires a daily gift
The reason relationships don't last
is they are given short shrift

Long marriages and friendships
enjoy continuous commitment
Every gift is enjoyed with significant love
fitting each situation like a hand in a glove

In times apart both are still there
because what they feel is real
This gives meaning to the way they care
with never a question of any appeal

It's lamentable so few have found this out
being too busy with their own game
It is the cause one has to do without
and that is really a sad sad shame

To make good things happen
means not thinking only of self
The egoist will soon find
they are alone up on a shelf

Since so few have found a way
to manage a good connection
Too many good people will experience
a life diminished by rejection

It certainly doesn't mean
the future is empty of any hope
When losers find a way to change
there may be two more friends who can cope
