Animal Survival

Animal Survival

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

past, present and future

"
If aliens come from outer space
what will they see when they arrive
A planet home to the human race
with millions trying to stay alive

They will see the obvious futility
in human's efforts to reproduce
Causing serious over-population
that seems impossible to reduce

Humans like other large animals
that needed so much space
Will face death like they did
keeping their numbers in place

Animals cannot understand
what they must do in order to live
Limiting their sexual proclivity
would have much more to give

It is obvious we are repeating
what animals have done before
Over-population limiting survival
a harsh fact of universal lore

Humans will not likely change
for those who are now alive
The best that any of us can do
is find a way to survive

There are still good times to be had
 find something enjoyable to do
You can still exercise choice
a plan that should be true for you

Some will likely survive
doing what they have to do
Share the facts of life with them
that's what they need from you
