Friendship with Truth

takes serious effort

one of the surest ways
to feel all alone
is to speak of events
that others haven't known

 

the truth for them
was learned long ago
our view of truth
makes us sound like a foe

 

to bridge the gap
between lives we want to share
takes a special effort
and the desire to care

 

caring will require
that we can hold our tongue
otherwise it will cause
goodbyes to be sung

 

relationships end
sometimes by surprise
without anyone telling
what sound like lies

 

communication is sharing
 of what both want to do
it goes a long way
in building friendship too

 

it will be clearly helpful
if we agree to what is true
giving us more reasons
to speak as we want to do

 

now is a good time
to embark on this plan
we can do it with a tender heart
and give it the best that we can
