Habitude

Habitude

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

learned over time

"

Early nurture of one's nature

as Dryden penned,

"To write well, one must have

frequent habitudes with the best company".

If behavior is to become a habit

our personal environment will be

our future

Mentors in all learning

will apprentice our development

Families have been proving this

for centuries

Common folk know, "that apples

do not fall far from the tree".

The most enduring melodic lyrics

use rhyme

Easiest to learn and imitate by the young

when their learning capacity

is five times more successful

than it is in later years

Youth will be served

they are the hope for the future

The brain is a function of

our habitude

and dictates most of our choices

Our body's future depends

on what we know and do

In this one and only lifetime
