Differences

Differences

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

build character

"

All that we say or do

is derived from our distant past

Bound by the power of memories

the direction of our choices is cast

Best not to discuss religion

with someone we know as a friend

Long held opinions are hard to share

could cause the relationship to end

Monetary success is the same

differences are best not known

Judgement could lead to shame

seeds of jealousy may be sown

Politics learned before we knew

telling us what we believe is right

Can't give in to the other side

a difference may be seen as a slight

Accept the opinions of others

or you may be left alone

Respect is best if its learned

consideration is better when shown

Why bother to think these thoughts

that help us to know what is true

Friendship and company are the reward

being much happier if we do

Thinking we all are the same

is only a lie of the mind

Differences support our character

individuals are one of a kind

Now one has something to give

that our friend hasn't seen before

Everyone will have a better future

learning and enjoying life more
