Behavior

Behavior

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

long remembered

"
The acts we engage in
determine what we can do
A precedent for our future
that applies to me and you

When something is not right
we always have  a clue
An act may come back to haunt us
causing many other problems too

We see the result clearly
in the way that others fail
Be prepared for the same result:
a notice in tomorrow's mail

We cannot always act
the way best for us to do
But our critics will be happy
and there won't be just a few

You may not ever be able
to have them forget what you did
Your future will include
the acts you thought you have hid

Keep this in mind
so that when you have a choice
You can think often about your past
and have more reason to rejoice

Regret has its own life
being very hard to forget
In this one life we have
better choices are a safe bet

Good habits are the answer
for a life that's free and clear
Practicing them is the best plan
giving anyone less to fear
