Memories

Memories

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and dreams

"
Events of our past
are stored in the cells of our brain
The language is the chemicals
we experience and retain

Again and again they give forth
at our command or on their own
Not always in the ways we choose
sometimes making us groan

When the memory comes back
as we are about to awake
In a flash a dream can terrorize
enough to make us quake

Often re-enforced by many recalls
they become a long term hell
Dreading they will come back
will make us feel unwell

The left brain is their home
it chooses what we want to do
Think often of more pleasant events
and store happier memories too

When we are awake and alert
is the time to do what's right
So we can have enjoyable dreams
more often in the night

Our life is about our actions
some were good some were bad
Memories can only reflect
the experiences we have had

You can see from these words
the importance of what you must do
Spend days making friends happy
better dreams will come back to you
