The Game of Life

The Game of Life

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

play carefully

"
Every sport that you play
you play with your life
No matter how good you are
you could even lose your wife

Tiger played the best golf
that ever was played
Now the way that he plays
has his fans dismayed

Win or lose
its how you play the game
Do you want a long life
or were you just seeking fame

Some play only to win
because the money is good
Even though others call it a sin
it may not be doing what you should

When you play and get hurt
you should know enough to stop
Continuing strenuous play
will soon make you drop

An injury could mortgage the future
you may never play well again
Even you will then agree
that the playing was a sin

The plan we choose to follow
has consequences often unknown
It is why some choose carefully
as their success has often shown

Moderation will help
in any game we learn to play
It is the best way to compete
and still play another day
