life is not the rocks and stones it throws our way
the tricks and trials we say we can’t beat
but if we slip into some new feet, some new minds
will tell us that things we perceive and dream about
is not what counts
the mountains and valleys in your heart mean nothing
without the expression, go gettin', the definition of happiness
somethin' you won’t find after that glass of gin
it'll take a breath deeper than you can breathe
ears open wider to listen to these
kids who are trying to vibe, to seek
their lives are not worthless yet, we still have time to show them that
you can make something of yourself if
you turn your backs to the wackness
the crackheads and the underdogs
still have the brightness of tomorrow, and the lightness
of the hollow minds who are in power
they say we should be the ones to listen
but it’s been quite some time since
any world leader has been a peaceful dreamer
we wanna have our cake and eat it too
hate on the black man but we listen to blues
we’re tied and twisted in this ironic abyss
because we can’t take the heat when reality hits
so what im suggesting, is not going to be easy
it'll be ugly and harsh, the sky black as our hearts
but if we lead our own parade we can break from the shade
and finally see some sunlight in the decisions we make
let the vitamin free, soak into our skin
the wickedness of our sins, and lies and vanity
we will only ever be free to fly
when we take a second to think of we over I
