Truth underneath the GulfA Poem by Samuel Segun ToluwalaseMan's search for answers and his realisation 12metres beneath the Aqaba Gulf
He had started out
Few kilometres off the beach, further south It was just noon and the water surface was warm As he dived deeper, he could feel the water slowly turn lukewarm He had carried his emotional burdens above water, under water Crushed by his constant thoughts of his lover or so he thought These thoughts, these feelings, needing to be loved back, to be loved too, all these he had fought 6metres in and he had started to feel the pressure in his ear drums and lungs By now, the cold in the salt water was setting in many ways He pondered more on his desire to feel loved again and his weariness and emotional strain He had thought about what the future would look like and in that moment, he felt the pain He had stuck his feet in a rigged reef bend and was caught in it In the moment, he saw life and nature and sea fish, large and small and the swimming of free fish Emotional pain would await him, like the reef had done to his feet. He lifted his face up, pulled away from the bend and swarm slowly up, the truth staring and waiting for him above so much so he couldn't write this poem in its structure
