In this little series, I'll be going over different dak and disturbing things in our childhood.

DARK ORIGINS OF CHILDRENS SONGS

As a child, you grew up singing catchy little rhymes and sayings. Like 'London Bridge and 'Ring Around the Rosie'
Honestly as a child, you never really hear the words, you just sing along and dance. This is why you never gave it a second thought when you were singing about the black plague. Yeah. Ring around the Rosie? About the black plague. Just listen to the lyrics now; you'll see.

London Bridge is falling down, falling down... A line from a song about sacrificing children in structures. Yeah, it's not just about a bridge falling.
You see, back then in the crazy era; they believed that human sacrifice helped new structures stand stronger. They would take children and literally BUILD THEM IN THE BRIDGE ALIVE!! crazy!
This is why in the little game that goes with the song, the other children trap the last child.

Mary Mary, quite contrary how does your garden grow? With silverbells and cockelshells.... Ladeeda. You know the rest.
If you sang this as a child; you were sing about the infamous Bloody Mary! Yay! Her 'garden' is a reference to all the people she killed. Silverbells and cockelshells are nicknames of her famous torture routines. The maidens all in a row? That's what she called her beloved guillotine. The maiden.

Jimmy Crack Corn. First off, the lyrics are weird. It goes "Jimmy cracks corn and I don't care, Jimmy cracks corn and I don't care..." etc.
Historians looked for the origin of this bizarre songs and... It's about a slaveowner who gets bucked off his horse and dies. The slave is later executed for his death even though he had nothing to do with it.

The hearse song. From the start, this is a dark song. It goes in detail to describe the decomposing body that will 'soon be you' (I quote)
if you never heard this as a child... Your lucky cuz this is a really disturbing child song. It was intended to scare children into obedience. Kinda like 'clean your room... Or your gonna end up like the person in the hearse song'
