Warning! This article contains disturbing facts about our childhood. From games, to nursery rhymes, to movies. If you get easily disturbed this is not for you.
Dark Origins of Movie Songs Ok. We all had that one Disney song that we sang everyday (*Ahem* let it go *Ahem*) There are some really awesome ones that get stuck in our head. But sometimes animated movies put songs that are really intense. From murder to wishing someone to BURN in hell! These are some intense dark songs in animated kids films. The plagues- Prince of Egypt This is a movie about the story of Moses. It features him growing up in an egyptian family while his people are slaves to the pharaoh. After he learns his true family he is sent by God to free his people. The pharaoh disagrees and ultimately Moses is forced to unleash the plagues. The song begins as low chanting and gradually gets louder. With the intense scenes of fire raining down, people running in terror, bugs, and people dying, this really is super dark. Although I love this song, the chanting is great along with the beat... It's super intense. Watch it. See what you think Be Prepared- The Lion King Ok. Scar is probably the best Disney villian out there. He's cunning and clever. The movie is about how Scar kills his brother to take over the throne. His nephew, Simba, escapes and grows up in the forest to eventually take back the throne. The song Scar sings is all about killing Simba. It's pretty dark. Though it's awesome too. Poor Unfortuanate Souls- The Little Mermaid No doubt, Ursula is an unforgetable villain. She's... What you call... Unique. The movie is about Ariel, a mermaid who wishes to to be human so she can live a human life. She decides to visit Ursula, who says she can give her legs in return for her voice. The song starts and Ursula sings about poor unfortuanate souls. She states that there have been people who couldn't pay the price and if you look around, there's a lot of them. The song is pretty dark and twisted. It doesn't help that in the original unedited VCR little mermaid on the contract, it shows Mickey Mouse committing sucide (this was token out soon after. If you've got the copy with Mickey on it... Awesome!) My Lullaby- the Lion King 2 This movie is about Zira getting her son to kill Simba an take over the throne (again) so the movie is about Scar and Simbas kids bonding and Blah Blah Blah Zira starts singing a song about how killing Simba is like her lullaby... Dark. She sings all about killing him and even 'shows' it in shadows. Friend On the Other Side- The Princess and the Frog In this movie, the prince goes to Dr. Facilier to get his future told. Facilier starts singing about his 'friends on the other side'. A kid might not grasp this, but clearly he's talking about demons. It doesn't help with all the voodoo and witchcraft going on. Yeah... Almost as bad as Satan in the adventures of Mark Twain And finally... With no surpise... Hellfire- The Hunchback if Notre Dame This is a really disturbing song. A preacher falls in love with a girl, but since he's a 'righteous' man it's her fault. He goes on begging for forgiveness and blaming her for his love. Then it gets real dark. He sings about if she doesn't love him and only him then she shall burn. In Hell. He sings how she'll taste the fire. Wow. If she doesn't love him back, then let her burn in Hell. Idk which is worse at the moment, marrying the guy or burning in Hell Anyways... That's all! Is there any more disturbing songs in kids animated movies I missed?
