Dear Diary,
Today felt strange. I watched as the soldiers came closer to our village.
They marched in with their serious faces, and I didn’t know whether to feel
scared or curious. Everything seemed heavier, like the air was filled with
worry. My friends and I tried to play our usual games, but it was hard to
focus on laughing when the grown-ups were whispering and looking so
nervous.
The tangerine tree still stood tall, but somehow, it felt different today, like it
was beginning to wilt, just like how I’ve been feeling inside. I climbed it
again, and as I sat on one of the branches, I picked a tangerine and held it
tightly in my hand. The smooth skin felt cool against my palm, and I
squeezed it, hoping it would somehow make me feel better. I hoped the
sweet fruit would give me some comfort, like it always has, but even that
didn’t seem to work today.

Dear Diary,
Today, Mother made our favorite meal"bibimbap! The colors were so bright and beautiful, like a
rainbow right on my plate. There were reds from the gochujang, greens from the spinach, and
the yellow egg on top. It made me smile just looking at it. I watched as Mother carefully mixed
everything together, and it reminded me of how families stick together during hard times, just
like all the ingredients coming together to make something special.
We sat down to eat, but even with the delicious food in front of us, I could feel something wasn’t
right. My parents kept giving each other worried looks, like they were having a conversation
without saying anything. I wanted to tell them that everything would be okay, that we would get
through this, but the words just got stuck in my throat. So, I stayed quiet, trying to focus on the warmth of the food, even though my heart felt heavy.
